Some recent comments from Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving appear to indicate that a trade may be imminent for one Leafs forward.

While a lot of attention is being focused on the top-half of the Toronto Maple Leafs' lineup, that could be because the bottom-6 has already been addressed through several moves, including the acquisition of center Nicolas Roy from the Vegas Golden Knights.
The 28-year-old is a very underrated player and brings about a lot of intangibles that are synonymous with winning hockey games. He wins a lot of face-offs, is very responsible defensively, and plays a heavy game, while providing a good, hard 15 minutes per game.
On top of Roy, the Leafs also added Scott Laughton and Steven Lorentz last season, both of whom can play down the middle in a pinch.
The Maple Leafs will have one of them as their 4C next year, which undoubtedly makes David Kampf's position on the team obsolete.
Toronto has reportedly been shopping Kampf, who carries a $2.4 million dollar cap hit over the next 2 seasons, and based on Brad Treliving's recent comments when discussing Roy's acquisition, it sounds like the former might actually be on his way out.
"When you look at our roster now, you have Nic Roy, who can take a lot of defensive heavy lifting with defensive-zone starts, defensive faceoffs, and matchups.

When you put those into a pot, it allows you to not necessarily get lost on your 1-2-3 but spread out matchups and situational play that could free up different people when we talk about Auston, John, and Scotty Laughton."
If you read between the lines, the omission of Kampf's name is rather significant since the Leafs don't use him outside of his natural position, which is down the middle of the ice.
The Maple Leafs could also use the extra cap space as they continue their pursuit for a top-6 forward, and Kampf's $2.4 million would be beneficial to add to their remaining cap space of approximately $5 million.
In Laughton, Lorentz, Roy, Auston Matthews, Max Domi and John Tavares, the Leafs have enough centre depth to comfortably roll with into the season.
Kampf's position on the team is tenuous at best, and after Treliving's recent comments, he could be on his way out fairly imminently.
