On Wednesday, Leafs GM Brad Treliving was on "The Real Kyper and Bourne Show," where he was asked about the trade and the process of replacing Marner and his offence.
"The process is once the season ends you touch base with every team in the league. You explain what you're looking for. They explain what their situation isthere wasn't a huge appetite for people to move players.
There were less players hitting the market, less players availableIt's not as simple as saying 'okay Mitch has moved on, let's go replace Mitch.' You have to do that in the aggregate.
The opportunity allows more cap space. Can you add more depth, spread it around, replace the offense with a couple of moves."
Treliving has done well so far to replace some of what they lose when Marner left, having added Roy, Matias Maccelli and a couple of other depth players, but indicated during his appearance that he isn't done yet and doesn't plan on being done tinkering with the roster until October, unless something significant arises.
