Maple Leafs podcasters JD Bunkis and Sam McKee from Leafs Talk had a very interesting conversation about Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz after a statement win over the Florida Panthers.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have a pretty big decision to make regarding who will start the first game of the playoffs, and with two very capable netminders in Joseph Woll and Anthony Stolarz to choose from, Craig Berube's job isn't an easy one.
What Should the Leafs Do In Goal for the Playoffs?
Last night, with the Leafs playing host to the Florida Panthers in an important divisional matchup, Anthony Stolarz stood tall and helped propel the Leafs to a 3-2 win, widening the gap between themselves and the Panthers atop the Atlantic Division standings.
During their post-game chat on Leafs Talk, Bunkis and McKee sung the praises of Stolarz, calling his 29-save performance a statement game. In fact, Bunkis called the start the most important game of Stolarz's career and stated that the net now officially belongs to Stolarz for Game 1.
"I think it's over. I think he's the guy... This is the biggest game of [Anthony] Stolarz's career, and it's actually not even close. This is it by a factor of a billion. He was playing for a starting job on a Stanley Cup contender and he played his best period in the 3rd against his former team. It's a massive moment for the guy. Couldn't be happier for him."
The Leafs still have 7 games remaining, including one more game against Florida and another against Tampa Bay, so it might be a little premature to stamp a guarantee on Stolarz being the Game 1 starter, but Bunkis and McKee seem to be convinced that Stolarz has stolen the show and will be the starter when the playoffs commence.
