Anthony Stolarz has been rewarded by the Maple Leafs after a huge bounce back game and a strong performance in a 5-2 win over the Flyers this weekend.
Anthony Stolarz hasn't had the strongest start for the Maple Leafs this season from a pure numbers perspective, but his performance on Saturday against the Philadelphia Flyers certainly silenced some of his critics.
Stolarz was standing tall all night in Philly, stopping 31 of 33 shots on goal, posting a strong .939 SV% and a 2.00 GAA to pick up his 4th win of the season.
Stolarz Rewarded For Solid Performance
On Monday morning at Leafs practice ahead of their clash against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Stolarz was rewarded for his solid effort on Saturday, taking reps in the starters net, projecting to start tonight for the Leafs.
As Joseph Woll continues to put the work in with the return to play staff, you have to wonder when he's going to receive his conditioning stint, which would put a firmer timeline on his eventual season debut.
Until that time, though, the Leafs will have to rely on Cayden Primeau to continue to back up Stolarz -- though Primeau's numbers are awful to look at and leave a lot to be desired. The former Canadiens prospect is carrying a 4.30 GAA and a .838 SV% in three starts this season and has already been the subject of much criticism. He does, however, have two wins.
