William Nylander scores a highlight reel goal to win it for the Leafs in OT
William Nylander continues to elevate his game this season as he produced another multi-point game against the Wild Friday night. It began with a first period assist from behind the net on David Kampf's tying goal and ended with his 33rd goal of the season in overtime.
While his assist on Kampf's goal was nice, his overtime winner is surely a candidate for goal of the year. Just over a minute into the extra frame, Nylander stripped Frederick Gaudreau along the boards in the Minnesota zone before cutting around Matt Boldy avoiding a poke check from Filip Gustavsson and beating him low glove side to end the game.
It's another example of how Nylander's defensive game has taken a massive leap forward this season as well as his overall engagement in "dead" plays which he has been able to create plenty of offence from. Nylander now has 33 goals and 37 assists for 70 points through just 58 games. He is 11 points shy of passing his career high of 80 he set last year and 2 goals from setting a new career high, besting the one of 34 he set last season as well.
