William Nylander finally addresses his All-Star Game snub publicly
Thanks to a brilliant 4-point outing against the New York Islanders last night, William Nylander now sits in a two-way tie for the Leafs' lead in points this season with 56 points in 48 games thus far this season. Perhaps even more impressive is the fact that Nylander also leads the team in goal scoring.
A couple of weeks back, Mitch Marner was selected as his team's primary representative for next weekend's All-Star festivities. Last week, we found out that Auston Matthews would be joining Marner thanks to the All-Star fan vote process. Somehow, despite his breakout campaign and his share of the team lead in points, Nylander still finds himself on the outside looking in.
Last night, following his team's 5-2 win over the Islanders, Nylander was asked about his All-Star snub. Though he is probably somewhat disappointed that he won't be attending the ASG, Nylander remains humble and happy for his teammates, who he believes are equally deserving of the opportunity.
"Look, we've got two great guys that made the team. I'm not too worried about it. Obviously, it would be fun... They're two incredible players so I'm just happy to see them go."
-Nylander on Marner and Matthews attending the All-Star Game next week
Nylander's ability to be generally unbothered by things are part of the reason why he's found so much individual success in Toronto. Obviously, it would be the fan base's preference to see a little more team success, but hey - one step at a time. Nylander has been sensational in the playoffs over the last couple of seasons, so perhaps he'll be one of the keys to victory in the postseason this year. He's certainly at the top of his game, which is great news for the Leafs and not so great for the opposition.
