Tavares honoured before AND after his 1000th NHL game
The Leafs put together a solid outing against the Washington Capitals on Sunday, playing their way to a 5-1 win less than 48 hours after putting up a stinker against the Ottawa Senators. This on a night of significance for Leafs captain John Tavares, who played his 1000th NHL game.
Prior to the game, Tavares and his family were honoured for the important milestone in front of a capacity crowd. Tavares was presented with a silver stick to commemorate the occasion as well. In case you missed it, here are some clips from the ceremony.
Tavares played well on his big night, registering a pair of assists, which earned him 1st star of the game honours. He was also awarded the Maple Leafs championship belt.
