Subban reportedly sitting on an offer from a Western Conference club
P.K. Subban remains likely the top defender available in free agency and despite rumours that suggest that he's only interested in signing with a legitimate Stanley Cup contender, it appears as though he could be sitting on an offer from a Pacific Division club who is not expected to contend next season.
Per Sheng Peng, a San Jose Sharks correspondent, there is mutual interest between the Sharks and Subban that could see the 33-year-old land in San Jose. The reason that San Jose could be a desirable location for Subban is because he would have a legitimate shot at playing top-4 minutes with the Sharks - a luxury he may not have elsewhere.
Subban is not the same defenseman he once was. The signs of age and decline are showing and his last four seasons are the worst in his career. Perhaps he thinks that if he signs in San Jose on a short-term "show me" deal, a contending team may take a chance on him either at the deadline or in free agency next summer.
The Toronto, Ontario native recorded just 5 goals and 22 points in 77 games last season with the New Jersey Devils.
