Mitch Marner is one of the best playmakers in the NHL. Let's just get that out of the way at the top of this piece. Being slotted on the right wing of the Leafs' top line and first powerplay unit, he was a crucial piece in Auston Matthews' historic 60-goal season. He even collected a career-best 97 points himself along the way. It's hard to picture him in any other position, but Leafs fans might see that this season.

With that type of plan, it's not likely Leafs fans will see Marner in the running fora Norris Trophy anytime soon, but it switches the lines up a bit and could be beneficial for those late-game grinds when goals are needed to pull off a win.

How often - or if - Marner will be seen in a defensive position this season is to be determined, but it's something to watch out for.

After not playing in the Leafs 3-0 preseason win against the Habs last night, Marner will likely be back in the lineup for tomorrow's exhibition game in Bellville against the Senators.
