Sheldon Keefe goes hard at the NHL officials for botched calls during Sens game
Hockey is a sport of passion, intensity and fierce competition, so when the referees miss or botch calls, it can fire up the guys on the ice and on the bench - including and especially the team's coach.
Sheldon Keefe has proven during his short time in Toronto to be, let's say a "colourful personality". He's a no-nonsense coach who really preaches a high compete level and never quitting on a play. He is also known to mix it up with the officials on occasion. Saturday's matchup against the Sens was no different.
During Saturday's game, the officials made some questionable calls and failed to make some obvious calls. This, in turn, led to Keefe really letting them have it on multiple occasions. There were plenty of heated exchanges, but perhaps none moreso than this one at the end of the first period, where you can pretty easily read Keefe's lips.
"How many are you guys going to fuck up today?"
-Keefe to Francis Charron and Jake Brenk during the first period of the Leafs/Sens game
We know that the officials aren't perfect and that they miss more calls than just the ones in the games that the Leafs are involved in, but I'd be lying if I said that it didn't seem like the referees are a little harder on the Leafs. Maybe it's due to Keefe's fiery personality or maybe it's just a complete coincidence, but there were some bad ones against the Leafs last year and this year is no different to start.
