Rodion Amirov provides an update on his health status, announces when he'll make his return to the ice
This past winter, Leafs Nation was rocked by the news that one of the Leafs' top prospects was diagnosed with a brain tumor and would be undergoing treatment and temporarily parking his career. For Rodion Amirov, though, the news of his diagnosis was never going to keep him down. He's proven just that over the past 6+ months.
This week, Amirov took part in an interview with Alexei Shevchenko about, revealing that he has just two rounds of treatment left and plans to make his way back onto the ice in the November/December range.
Amirov was drafted by the Leafs in the 1st round (15th overall) in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. The 20-year-old suited up in just 13 contests for Salavat Yulaev in the KHL last season before he received his diagnosis. He recorded 1 goal and 2 assists for 3 points over that span, albeit in very little ice time.
Having lost almost an entire season to his condition, it's likely going to take some time for Amirov to get back up to speed. Honestly, though, I'm sure he feels fortunate just to be able to get back onto the ice at all.
