Following the Leafs and Rasmus Sandin agreeing to put an end to the contract negotiation stalemate, NHL Insider Frank Seravalli revealed that the last time Sandin and the Leafs spoke, Kyle Dubas made it VERY clear to the 22-year-old that the team had absolutely no intention of raising the AAV of his contract to more than the $1.4M that they paid to Timothy Liljegren earlier this summer.

However, as ESPN's Kristen Shilton is reporting, while the Sandin camp knew of the Leafs' firm stance, it was actually Sandin who chose to reach out to the club to end the holdout. Kyle Dubas himself revealed as much following Thursday's contract announcement.

"This morning, Rasmus Sandin and Lewis Gross reached out to us and informed us that after watching our game last night and seeing more injuries accrued by our defense, that they wanted to get this locked in today"

-Dubas on Sandin's late change of heart and desire to end the holdout to be there for his teammates

There was a cohort of the Leafs fanbase who had soured on Sandin due to the holdout, but I'd imagine that he'll re-gain a lot of support after agreeing to end the stalemate due to the injuries piling up on the blueline rather than trying to squeeze the Leafs for more money.
