Per a former Leaf, Toronto may be the only team on Patrick Kane's list now that the Rangers are out
Time is running out for the Leafs to make a big acquisition ahead of an all-important playoffs for Kyle Dubas. The Leafs have been linked to several top deadline targets, but both Bo Horvat and Vladimir Tarasenko have already been moved and by all appearances, it looks like Jakob Chychrun will be heading to Los Angeles. The list of available targets is shrinking rapidly, but according to former Leaf Carlo Colaiacovo, there may be a very big piece available to the Buds.
Colaiacovo dropped an absolute bombshell on TSN 1050's First Up this morning, stating that the two teams who are believed to have been on Patrick Kane's preferred trade list were New York and Toronto. With the Rangers having made a deal to bring in Tarasenko, the Leafs may be the only team left which he'd be willing to move to.
"If Patrick Kane was to accept a trade somewhere, the two teams I've been told are on [Kane's] list are the New York Rangers and the Toronto Maple Leafs."
-Colaiacovo on Kane
Colaiacovo went on to explain that the deal would only be doable with double salary retention, since the veteran winger has a $10.5M cap hit, which can be reduced to $2.625M with double retention. At that number, the Leafs could absolutely make it work. It would just come down to the trade package at that point.
If the Leafs are indeed the only team remaining on Kane's trade list, one would have to assume that he'll come much cheaper than anticipated, since the Hawks would essentially be out of options and in jeopardy of losing Kane for nothing this summer anyway. This will be an interesting situation to keep an eye on with the deadline just over 2 weeks away.
