Pat Maroon calls Wayne Simmonds soft; Simmonds responds by lighting him up in a fight
During the first period, as things got more physical between the Leafs and Bolts, Wayne Simmonds and Pat Maroon engaged in some not so friendly conversation between the benches. During their chat, Maroon called Simmonds "soft". Nothing more came of their conversation and at the end of the first period during an interview with ESPN's Leah Hextall, she followed up on it asking Simmonds if he in fact was "soft".
I'm not sure if she asked that for a sound bite or what, but that has to rank at the top of the list as far as dumbest questions to ask in an interview. Credit to Simmonds though, who without missing a beat responded by saying, "We've never dropped the gloves. He's never obliged me before so I don't think I'm the one that's soft."
Well, apparently Maroon heard Simmonds' reply, calling the 3-time Stanley Cup winner the soft one and did indeed oblige him in the 2nd period. It didn't go so well for Maroon.
Just for good measure, Maroon is 6'3, 240 lbs. Simmonds is 6'3, 180 lbs. How's that for soft, Pat?
