Long gone are the days where every NHL club has an enforcer patrolling the ice. The game has shifted more toward speed and skill than toughness and brutality. Having said that, there are a few true enforcers still kicking around and one of the most feared resides in The Big Apple - and he could be available.
Well, something has changed for Gallant this season, as Reaves, who played in nearly 69 games for the Rangers last season, has found himself on the receiving end of multiple healthy scratches over the last two weeks. His time may, in fact, be coming to an end in New York. After being healthy scratched in 4 of the last 5 games, Gallant was asked why Reaves has been on the sidelines so frequently recently. Here's what he had to say:
Reaves, 35, is in the final year of his current deal and carries a $1,700,000 cap hit - well within the range of what the Leafs could afford. Thus far, we have not heard the Leafs mentioned as someone who has kicked tires on Reaves, but with Kyle Clifford and Wayne Simmonds appearing to have fallen out of favour a bit in Toronto, perhaps Reaves could be another depth option for the Leafs.
