Mitch Marner asked point blank about Sheldon Keefe on Tuesday
A not-so-well-kept-secret was the mid-game benching of Mitch Marner during their most recent game against the Anaheim Ducks and the subsequent stick-smashing in the tunnel that followed. Keefe quickly turned back to Marner, however, in an attempt to climb back into the game, but in the end, the Leafs dropped their 4th consecutive game to a weak opponent.
With the Maple Leafs in a downward spiral losing their last 4 games, all the media attention has been placed on Sheldon Keefe and his job security. Usually when a team is struggling, the head coach is the first to go, before a trade/shake-up takes place.
With no game being played until Wednesday against the Philadelphia Flyers, not much is being talked about outside of Keefe - who holds the highest winning percentage in franchise history at 62.8%.
Mitch Marner was asked some hard-hitting questions regarding his head coach's status on Tuesday. Among those questions were - "Are you playing for Sheldon Keefe's job right now?" Marner revealed that there is, in fact, no friction between he and Keefe, emphasizing what an exceptional job Keefe has done with the team since his arrival.
"We're a hockey team that wants to win games. Keefer has done an unbelievable job with this team when he's come in and done what he's done. If you look at our numbers, we've really improved on a lot of things.
"It's been a lot of fun to play for him. For us, it's just making sure it starts with our effort, accountability, and once we get those two things going, I think we are really going to be moving in the right direction."

Rather coy after all the reports that have come out in recent days about the status of the team, relationship between coach and players, and so forth. The Leafs are entering a very critical juncture of their season only 10 games in but every step they make, every move they make, is being magnified.
