Michael Bunting has a unique routine with Nylander before each game
Michael Bunting burst onto the scene in Toronto last season with 23 goals and 60 points in his rookie campaign. This season, in the final year of his 2-year, $950K per season contract, Bunting has 13 goals and 33 points in 50 games. He has quickly become a fan favourite and one of the most outspoken and funny guys in the Leaf room. He is loved by everyone, but has a special relationship with Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner and William Nylander.
In the off-season and during the season, he is always seen hanging out with Matthews and Marner, but he has a special pre-game ritual with Nylander. Before every game, Bunting has Nylander sign whatever stick he is using before he tapes it. Why you ask? For good luck and because Nylander is his favourite player.
Yes, you read that correctly, Nylander is Bunting's favourite player. This may be the first time we've heard of another player signing a teammate's stick as a superstition, but so far it has worked well for Bunting.
