Maple Leafs announce the passing of a former member of the team
Earlier today, the Maple Leafs announced that former Leaf Bill MacMillan has passed away at the age of 80. The Charlottetown, PEI native made his NHL debut with the Leafs during the 1970-71 season and would play 2 seasons with the Leafs.
In those two seasons with the Leafs, the 5'11 center managed to register 58 points in 137 games before continuing his career with stops in Atlanta and Long Island before transitioning to a role behind the bench. In 1979 MacMillan became an Assistant Coach for the Islanders and in 1980 and was subsequently named the Head Coach of the Colorado Rockies that same year, and took on the General Manager role the following season. He remained with Colorado when they relocated to New Jersey before being let go in the 1983-84 season.
MacMillan also represented represented Canada on the International stage several times before making his NHL debut with the Maple Leafs in 1970. He won Bronze 3 times in international competition with Canada. Our condolences go out to Bill's friends and family during this difficult time.
