Leafs confirm starter for tonight's tilt against the Jets
After giving up 4 goals on 8 shots Tuesday night against Florida, Matt Murray was pulled in favour of Ilya Samsonov, who came in a shut the door, stopping all 11 shots he faced in relief. Samsonov was sensational, making a number of desperation saves to give the Leafs a chance to come back.
At practice today, both Samsonov and Murray were on the ice, with Samsonov departing after a few drills indicating he will be starting tonight against the Jets. This will be just the fourth start this month for Samsonov, who made way for Murray to play five of the Leafs' eight games in January so far.
Samsonov is 13-4-1 in 17 starts this season with a .916 save percentage and 2.24 goals against average. He will be looking to bounce back after losing his last start against Detroit last Saturday where he gave up 3 goals on 22 shots. Sammy is also 11-0-1 at home this season.
