Leafs Nation Network scheduled to go off air permanently
After a 21-year run on the air, Leafs Nation Network will cease broadcasting as of September 1st. Previously known as LeafsTV, the TV station started broadcasting in 2001 and was only available within the Leafs home market of Ontario, excluding the Ottawa Valley.
As recently as 2012 the Leafs would have weekday games exclusively broadcast on LeafsTV. They would also show highlights, analysis, historical games, and Toronto Marlies games. The historical games were always a personal favourite of mine, as I got to see the Leafs actually win playoff series, and got to see my father's heroes play for the Blue and White.
Without any live games to broadcast, and with the emergence of social media and online video platforms like YouTube, Leafs Nation Network has lost value quickly. As much as I miss hearing Joe Bowen's iconic voice calling plays, it was time for Leafs Nation Network to go to make space for alternate forms of Leafs' coverage. Truly the end of an era.
