Leaf winger spotted at Marlies practice, indicating that his limited time in the NHL may be over
It would appear that after being a healthy scratch for the Leafs' final two games of 2022, Leafs prospect Joey Anderson has been returned to the AHL's Toronto Marlies. Anderson played 7 games for the Leafs in December, registering just 1 goal in an average of ~9 minutes per game.
With the addition of Dryden Hunt, it was only a matter of time before Anderson found himself out of the lineup. While he provided the Leafs with energy and was used in a penalty killing role at times, he was unable to capitalize on the opportunity given to him. When the Leafs first acquired Hunt, Keefe purposely held him out of the lineup to give Anderson a chance to show that he could perform if given a chance. Unfortunately he was unable to grab a spot and run with it the same way Pontus Holmberg has.
With the demotion, Anderson will look to continue his hot start with the Marlies where he had 19 points in 21 games to begin the year.
