Keefe furious as controversial late penalty almost costs Leafs the game
Late in the third period off of a faceoff in the Montreal zone, William Nylander was called for high-sticking Joel Edmundson. The teams were already playing 4-on-4 after previous coincidental penalties to Mike Matheson and Calle Jarnkrok. The penalty on Nylander put the Leafs down 4-on-3 and Sheldon Keefe was livid with the officials after watching the replay.
After watching the replay, you can see that David Savard runs interference on Nylander and lifts his stick, which causes it to go into the face of Edmundson. If anything, both Nylander and Savard should have been called, negating the powerplay for the Habs.
Keefe can be seen trying to plead his case yelling "he lifted our stick" with some additional words and exaggerated hand motions. Keefe has already been fined once for his in-game antics and it wouldn't be a shock to see him receiving another letter from the NHL in the coming days.
