Jack Campbell drops a heartfelt thank you message to Leafs fans after signing with the Oilers
Wednesday was a day that Leafs fans had been emotionally preparing themselves for since the Jack Campbell to Edmonton rumours first dropped. Still, even with the weeks leading up to UFA day, I think a lot of Leafs fans were holding onto hope that Campbell would be back. So, when he officially inked a 5-year deal worth $5M per season with the Oilers in free agency, it was certainly a let down, but at the same time, a lot of people are happy for Soup, who got the contract that he felt he deserved.
Campbell endeared himself to Leafs fans early and often, both through his play and through his calm, kind, appreciative and respectful personality. He worked hard during his time in Toronto and played his heart out. He declared his interest in staying in Toronto long-term, but ultimately, the term was just a little too long and the AAV a little too high for the Leafs to commit to.
On Thursday, Campbell took to social media to share some sentiments with Leafs Nation for a wondering couple of years in Toronto. I'm not crying, you're crying.
"To my teammates in Toronto, THANK YOU for everything. Words don't justify how special the past couple of years mean to me. To leafs nation, the support you gave me every single day through the ups and downs was beyond my wildest imagination. Thank you for making me feel welcomed and loved. To Oil Country, I can't wait to get started and I'm so grateful for this opportunity!"

Obviously, all the best to Jack in the next chapter of his career. He's a special person and, last season aside, has shown himself to be a very competent NHL goaltender who does have some game-breaking ability. They're going to love him in Edmonton.
