Habs reportedly receive some potentially upsetting news about 2022 1st overall pick Juraj Slafkovsky
For the Montreal Canadiens, winning the draft lottery guaranteed them the opportunity to draft the best available player at the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. Whether or not they walked away with the best prospect in the draft is still up for debate, after having passed on long-time consensus number 1 Shane Wright, but they did walk away with arguably the most intriguing prospect in the draft in 6-foot-4 Juraj Slafkovsky.
Unfortunately for Slafkovsky and the Habs, the 18-year-old prospect appears to have suffered an injury during a prospects tournament this week and will not play for the remainder of the tournament.
Slafkovsky got caught with his head down, cutting to the middle of the ice during a game against the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday and took a hard hit after crossing the blueline and entering the offensive zone. Here's the play in which the suspected injury took place.
Perhaps this is just the Habs playing things out with a little more caution as they prepare for training camp next week, but the possibility still does exist that Slafkovsky did suffer some sort of an injury on the play and could need some time off.
