Funny conversation between Mitch Marner and Erik Karlsson about Joe Thornton caught on video during All-Star weekend
A couple of weeks have passed since the 2023 All-Star weekend took place and while the All-Star Tournament itself was quite fun to watch, the Skills Competition was largely received very poorly.
One of the highlights of the Skills Competition portion of the weekend was when Brady Tkachuk was doing a live interview with TSN while Mitch Marner and Erik Karlsson were chattering on with one another on either side of Tkachuk, not realizing that he was in the midst of an interview.
We don't know exactly what they were talking about during that interview, but shortly thereafter, they did exchange some words on a mutual friend, "Jumbo" Joe Thornton. In the clip below, provided by TSN on Instagram, Marner and Karlsson can be seen sharing a funny Thornton story that is just so "Jumbo" to a T.
Thornton is still a UFA and was not able to secure a contract this past summer, despite plenty of rumours that he could re-up with the Sharks at some point to end his career where he spent the bulk of it. At 43 years old, however, it's highly likely that his NHL career is over.
