Forwards, Zach Solow and Keenan Suthers and defensemen, Matthew Hellickson, Tommy Miller, and Matteo Pietroniro were all signed to one-year AHL contracts on Friday.
Solow had a relatively successful season with the Newfoundland Growlers of the ECHL this season where he scored 14 goals and 42 points in 42 games. He suited up for 23 games for the Marlies and added 4 points along the way. He spent the previous 4 seasons with Northeastern University in the NCAA, scoring 104 points in 132 games.
Suthers stands at a towering 6'8 and 245 lbs and is coming off a successful campaign with the Growlers where he scored 18 goals and 40 points in 56 games. He had spent the last 5 years in the NCAA with both St.Lawrence University and the University of Maine.
Hellickson scored a goal and added 5 assists in 30 games with the Marlies this season, while also making 5 regular season appearances for the Growlers. The 25-year-old had previously spent the last 4 seasons with the University of Note Dame where he scored 52 points in 146 games.
Miller also split time with both the Marlies and the Growlers, where he registered 7 points in 40 games for the former and 6 points in 15 games for the latter. Similarly to Hellickson, Miller had spent the previous 4 seasons with Michigan State University, recording 27 points in 135 games.
Pietroniro spent his season with the Marlies, appearing in 51 games, scoring 1 goal and chipping in with 2 assists. The 24-year-old had spent the previous season with the Growlers where he scored 27 points in 59 games and another 3 in 19 playoff games.
I highly doubt this is the last flurry of deals we see announced this summer.
