The future of the Ottawa Senators' franchise has been largely up in the air since the passing of Eugene Melnyk in March of this year. Melnyk was always committed to keep the Sens in Ottawa, but it was unclear what would happen with the team after his daughters took over following his death. Well, now we have a little more clarity on the situation.
A report from earlier this week confirmed that the Senators would likely be going up for sale and that Melnyk's daughters could still be interested in keeping a minority share. As for potential buyers, Justin Bieber was one of the earliest rumoured suitors. However, there is another potential suitor who is equally famous and could have an interest in not only buying the Senators, but keeping them in Ottawa as well.
Per People dot com, Deadpool star and Canadian icon Ryan Reynolds could purchase the Sens, who are worth approximately $665M, per the latest projections from Sportico. While Reynolds' net worth from his movies and endorsements is approximately $150M, the 46-year-old added $610M to his net worth by becoming an owner of Aviation Gin in 2020.
