Dubois pulls the same move he did in Columbus, says he doesn't want to play for the Jets anymore

It's no secret that Pierre-Luc Dubois has made it known he does not want to stay in Winnipeg longer than he has to. As an RFA this season and next, Dubois has stated his desires to accept his qualifying offers and walk straight to free agency.

According to his agent Pat Brisson, Dubois wants to play for Montreal. He reportedly even attended the 2022 draft hoping the Habs would swing a deal to acquire him. The Habs reportedly offered the Jets 3 players for Dubois at the draft but Winnipeg said no, reported The Athletic's Arpon Basu. The Jets apparently want a player the Habs refuse to move, guesses would say Cole Caufield or Nick Suzuki.

Trading for Dubois is something teams should be wary about. This isn't the first time he informed a team he wouldn't be coming back. He told Columbus he wanted out before he was traded for Patrik Laine. Now he wants out of Winnipeg. Dubois seems like a cancer to bring into any dressing room and would be one of those guys that moans about anything and everything until he gets his own way. If that's the kind of guy the Habs want to lead the way with Suzuki and Caufield because he's French Canadian, by all means go for it.

For the next two seasons though, Dubois and his agent need to be quiet and just play hockey. The Jets won't be trading him for less than what they want and won't trade him just because he wants out. The deal will be similar to the one Joe Sakic made with Matt Duchene. The trade was made on Sakic's terms not Duchene's. Expect the jets to follow that path.
