Auston Matthews publicly recognized by the NHL for his incredible play last week

It was a wild week for Auston Matthews. He surpassed Rick Vaive's record for goals in a season by a Leaf and then scored 2 goals against Montreal on Saturday to make him the first player to score 50 goals in a 50 game span since Mario Lemieux in 1995-96. Now, after scoring 11 points in 4 games this week, Matthews has been named the NHL's first star of the week.

Matthews topped the podium with Capitals defender, John Carlson earning second star honours, and fellow Hart Trophy candidate, Johnathan Huberdeau was named third star of the week.

Matthews currently leads the NHL in goals with 58 and with every goal he scores he's extending his very impressive franchise record. With 10 games remaining in the season, 60 goals appears to be a lock for #34 and 70 goals isn't necessarily out of the question either. We've seen him score 12 goals in 10 games before. There's no reason to think that he can't do it again.
