Stanley Cup champion Barclay Goodrow has landed on the waiver wire, after an impressive post-season.

According to hockey analyst Elliot Friedman, the New York Rangers have placed Goodrow on waivers in an attempt to try to clear some cap space.

Goodrow is coming off a lackluster regular season, where he put up a disappointing 12 points in 80GP. However, Goodrow shined in the playoffs once again, where he amassed 6 goals in 16 games, and surpassed his total goals from the regular season in 64 less games.

Goodrow is the definition of a playoff performer. The issue isn't his strong playoff style of play, but it is his cap hit. He is currently signed until the 2026-27 season with a cap hit just north of 3.6M per season. This is probably the main reason why the Rangers want to move on from the former 2X Stanley Cup champion (Tampa Bay Lightning 2019-2020 and 2020-2021).

Regardless of his significant cap-hit, it would be unwise if the Toronto Maple Leafs did not consider Goodrow as an option for them. Goodrow's style of play is exactly the style of play you want on your team, which we are seeing from the Florida Panthers this year. Something to note is that Goodrow is a Toronto native, making Toronto an intriguing spot for him. The Leafs will undoubtedly need the Rangers or another team to retain some salary if they decide to go after him.

One thing is certain; whatever team Goodrow ends up on will instantly be a more competitive, hard to play against team.
