Former Maple Leaf released from PTO with the Avalanche
It appears as though the Colorado Avalanche will be joining the long list of NHL teams for whom Alex Galchenyuk could not crack the roster.
Peter Baugh, a writer for the Colorado Avalanche sent out a recent tweet stating that the club has decided to release Galchenyuk, after signing the forward to a PTO on September 20th.

So, while his stint with the reigning Stanley Cup Champions lasted just over a week (8 days to be exact), the list of franchises that Galchenyuk has (technically) belonged to is now eight!
At one time, the Milwaukee, WI native showed great promise. He was drafted third overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2012 NHL entry draft and that following season, recorded 27 points over a span of 48 games – not bad numbers by any means.

However, in 2018, Galchenyuk was dealt to the Arizona Coyotes in an exchange that saw Max Domi going the other way. Ever since then, the 28-year-old has struggled to find a permanent home ever since. The following year he was involved in another trade, this time to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Galchenyuk was set-back by injuries during his time with the pens and was then sent to the Minnesota Wild. After playing only 14 games for the Wild, he signed a deal with the Ottawa Senators via Free Agency. If you thought a 14 game stint was short, well, his time with the Sens was even shorter, as he only suited up for 8 games before being dealt alongside Cedric Paquette to the Carolina Hurricanes in return for Ryan Dzingel.
Before even reporting to the Carolina Hurricanes, Dubas made headlines after acquiring Galchenyuk just two days after the Sens/Hurricanes deal was finalized. After putting up 8 points in 6 games for the Marlies, he was called up to the big boy roster where he was placed on a line with Nylander and Tavares. Galchenyuk remained with the top squad, making a significant contribution in the first-round matchup against the Canadiens where he put up 4 points in 6 games. To the surprise of some fans, the forward ended up signing a PTO with the Coyotes prior to the start of the 2021-2022 season, meaning his time with the Maple Leafs was over.
Is it time that teams stop taking a chance on a player that at one time co-led an NHL team in goals scored?
